So I went out and bought blood sugar testing materials after my dr. appointment yesterday. After dinner last night my sugars were good. I think they were about as high as they would like to see them, but still acceptable. Anyway, I had a bowl of ice cream last night with John then went to bed. This morning my fasting blood sugar and sugars after eating breakfast were too high. I called the dr. office immediately and just heard back from them. They are referring me to a gestational diabetes education class. I can't help but feel bad that I have probably had uncontrolled sugars this whole time and that is probably why Olivia is measuring big. I'm also kind of angry. I've taken so many lab test, you would think they would've caught it. Now I am nervous that it is too late to reverse any damage done. We have babies in the NICU from diabetic mothers and on top of being large, they usually have difficulty feeding and have blood sugar issues of their own. This is because they are so used to being in a high sugar state that they over produce insulin. When they come out of their mother, they continue to produce all that insulin and their blood sugar drops. This usually requires them to be on some IV fluids until they stabilize.
Anyway now I am waiting for a call back from the nurse who is setting up the class. I guess they usually have one tomorrow, but I work tomorrow night. I hope it is at a time I can attend. It should be helpful in telling me what to eat. That is something I have a bit of difficulty with. I know you can't eat a lot of sugar, but it gets more complicated with carbs and things. Anyway the last couple days haven't been fun but I guess it is good to find this out late rather than never.

Apparently I'm "impressive"

Well that's what the dr. said about the swelling in my feet. At least I am impressive at something I guess! I know my feet have been swollen off and on for he last couple weeks depending on if I've been walking a lot or able to relax. Well John, Jenny, Nick and I went to the fair last night and did a lot of walking, so I don't think that helped the swelling!
Anyway the dr. didn't have great news. She is concerned about me giving birth because Olivia has a large belly, not a large head (normal size head) and going through the birth canal would be an issue. She is also concerned because she checked me and said I have a very narrow pelvis and doesn't think I would be able to give birth to much over a 7lb baby (actually she may have said 6..). So that really sucks to think about. I just want what's best for her though, ad I don't want her getting in distress because I'm set on delivering her. So she didn't say a date for delivery or anything, but I think she just wanted me to start thinking about a section. The recovery time is also much longer since it is major surgery, so I'm hoping that John could stay home for a week. I guess we will have to see what his schedule is like when the time comes. I guess on the plus side sections are scheduled so John will be happy with that. He has been stressing a little over what he is going to do about work when she comes I think, so this would work well for him! She also had me do some blood work since I am so swollen for pre-eclampsia. Even though my BP has been fine the whole time (including this appt) the swelling isn't good- so they measure different things in your blood to test for it. She also examined me and I'm totally closed so not going to go into labor any time soon. The last thing she said was she wants me to start checking my blood sugars. Even though all my lab work is normal Olivia is showing signs of me having gestational diabetes with her belly being large like this. I just went to Walgreen's and got testing stuff. I had eaten 3.5 hours before and my sugar was 55. She wants it under 140 1 hr after eating and under 120 2 hours after eating. So I am eating lunch now and will see what it says. So not the best appointment in the world, but I guess things could always be worse.
The fair last night was really fun. I LOVE the fair. I have to go every year! I haven't missed it once. Usually I go a couple times while it's here, but I'm not sure if I'll be back this year. We went around dinner time so it wouldn't be too hot out and left after dark. I love to see all the rides lit up in the dark. John and I shared some teriyaki chicken, and I had some really good lemonade and a shaved ice later. It was SUPER good. We saw most of the animal and different exhibits. Jenny and I played the horse racing game where you roll the balls up into the holes. She beat me! We were the only 2 players so one of us was guaranteed to win! It was a fun 60 seconds or so! We also saw some cute little kids riding bucking sheep and heard a guy on stage that sounded EXACTLY like Kenny Chesney. Weird. Anyway here are some pictures from the night!

about time... shower photos
Alright here are the photos I said I would put on here a while back. A bunch of random shower photos from the Seattle shower on 8-29-09. Whew that took along time to put up on here! They are a combination of pictures my mom took and John's family took. I have a lot more, but I figured we did not need to see pictures of me opening every.single. present. Because I bet I pretty much have a picture of it! ha ha Oh and some very unattractive ones of me halfway talking. Not gonna post those either! :)
birthday update with pictures
Well my birthday was really nice! I had a pedicure in the morning with a pumpkin spice latte (decaf of course..), took a quick nap and then had my mommy-to-be massage at 230 in the afternoon! It was SO nice. They have a special pillow with an opening in the middle for your tummy to go through so you lay on your stomach the whole time! They also use unscented oil for the smell sensitivity and some essential oils are not good to mix with pregnancy. After the massage I took a shower there at the spa and used their products. It was so nice! Once I got home John was already home and waiting for me with flowers. We ended up going to dinner early since we were both ready to go and hungry! John had a really good halibut dish and I had scallops. We finished it off by sharing a piece of black forest cake that was made with chocolate mousse! Overall I don't think I could haveasked for a better day! It was nice to just do nothing but relax! Here is me at 36 weeks exactly on my 29th birthday before dinner:

And here are a couple of the nursery. John got the shelves at home depot so we had more room to put things like picture frames and books. I had these pretty pink glass jars and nothing to do with them. We needed book ends.... so I had the idea to fill them with pebbles, and now they are great cute book ends! They aren't too easy to see in the picture, but they are very cute!
And then I found some cheap wall decals at target the other day. It has a bunch of branches birds, owls, and little forest critters. They aren't the best quality and I don't think they will stick too long, but they were just too cute to pass up! You can see a flower next to the bookshelf in the above picture. Here is my little hedgehog and some grass below!
Anyway that's about it for now. Today I have been working on cleaning the house, doing a little laundry and now I am downloading belly pictures to be sent to Walgreens. I need to get them in my belly book now that time is getting so close!

Birthday
It's my birthday today!! I can't believe how old I am getting!! Oh well, I told John he will ALWAYS be older! ha ha! Today is kind of special too since it is 9-9-09. I think I will have to go out and buy a lottery ticket- maybe it will be lucky! I don't have too much planned today yet. I think I may go get a pedicure and I am going to call and schedule my pregnancy massage for either today or tomorrow that I got from John's family! Thank you! I actually woke up kind of sore this morning, I think I might have slept funny. So a massage sounds REALLY nice. John and I are going out to dinner tonight at Luna. I don't think we've been there in a long time. It's too pricey to go there very often, but for something special it is nice- plus the food is SO good. So I don't have anything specific planned today, which is pretty nice. I didn't sleep a lot yesterday and last night just because of the ultrasound and I tried staying up for John since he had to go back to work last night. I almost made it. He got home around 11pm. He tried talking to me, but I was too tired to respond! He said I flipped over in bed and he felt Olivia move for along time in my tummy. He said it was like she was busy doing yoga in there! She is running out of space so she probably was stretching trying to get comfortable! Anyway if I can I may try and take a nap this afternoon since I am already tired at 730 this morning. Well, that's about all for today! :)

ultrasound 35 weeks
Well we just got home from our ultrasound. Olivia is still measuring big in her belly, and they can't really tell if her liver is enlarged. Her belly is in the 90th percentile. The tech said it didn't show typical signs of anything wrong with the liver, which I guess would show more openings in the ducts. Her educated guess is that she is chubby. She showed the information to the perinatologist before we left and he though the same thing, but wanted to keep an eye on her, so scheduled an ultrasound in 10 days on the 18th. I really liked this tech, she was really nice and spent a lot of time explaining the different parts. One thing she mentioned several times is how much hair she has! I'm curious now to see what it looks like! She said she got the good hair gene since she has long eyelashes too! Anyway they said she is measuring about 6lb 8oz now but she also said as more time goes on and I get closer to term, the less accurate the machine is. The bad news is I completely forgot to bring a cd. She gave me paper pictures but I'm not sure how to scan them on to here. Really the pictures aren't as good as my 20 week pictures since she is so big now and you only see parts. She still likes to have her hands up by her face but at one point held up her hand and gave the "I'm number one" sign. The tech printed a pic of that one. She also tried to poke her a little to get her to move her hands, and John said it was funny because you could see Olivia open her mouth startled and jump. She was busy moving in there though and the tech said everything else looked great. She is breathing well in there, has enough fluid, heart rate is 150 (which is perfect) and they can even look at her blood pressure somehow and that is good too. So I am hoping they are correct and she will just be on the chubby side... I'm still guessing they will induce me early with her measuring like this. I guess I am technically term next Thursday at 37 weeks but I don't think they would induce me that early ( I hope not! )

prediction
I think I've done this before, but Julie is insisting on a new blog entry since I've been lazy. Here it is: My labor prediction. It actually sounds like it could be pretty accurate- minus the eyes which should at least turn blue!
Madame Zaritska, using her mystical powers, has the following prediction: The day you deliver, outside will be overcast. Your baby will arrive in the evening. After a labor lasting approximately 10 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 10 ounces, and will be 22-1/2 inches long. This child will have dark brown eyes and some brown hair.
The size sounds right, it would be crazy to have a baby that long though! My co-worker who was due on the 18th of this month had her baby girl last week. It feels weird to have one less of us at work now. That means it's getting closer! Anyway she and her husband are both above 5'8" and their baby girl was 17.5 inches long! It could be because she was a little early too- a little under 38 weeks. Everything was good though and now they are all at home. Lucky!
Anyway I'm just making salmon quiche for dinner tonight. John caught several Salmon when we in Seattle last week for my shower and we had some for dinner last night. There were a lot of leftovers since salmon isn't really my favorite. So I'm making 2 quiches, one to freeze and one for dinner! yum!
